Die Basisgewerkschaft FAU Hamburg hat mit der FGWM ein Fundraising initiiert und steht solidarisch an der Seite der Federation of General Workers Myanmar (FGWM).

Ziel: 15 000 Euro bis zum 31. August 2023, damit die Genoss*innen der FGWM ihre kämpferische Arbeit fortführen können!

Worum geht’s?

In der FGWM sind Genoss*innen organisiert, mit denen einige Mitglieder der FAU Hamburg bereits seit mehreren Jahren gut persönlich vernetzt sind und diese auch mehrmals getroffen haben.
Die FGWM setzt sich aus 40 (Fabrik)Gewerkschaften zusammen, umfasst weiterhin mehrere tausend Mitglieder und ist eine der sehr wenigen uns bekannten gewerkschaftlichen Föderationen in Asien, die den Anspruch hat basisdemokratisch zu funktionieren. Ihren Ursprung hat die FGWM in den Nähfabriken der Industriegebiete von Myanmar. Der Großteil der Sekretär*innen musste mittlerweile vor Verfolgung durch die Militärjunta fliehen und agiert aus dem Untergrund im Exil.
Trotz der Militärdiktatur arbeiten sie weiter. Die FGWM unterstützt Arbeiter*innen dabei sich zu organisieren, begleitet Arbeitskämpfe (wie neulich bei Sun Apparel), die unter großer Gefahr weiterhin stattfinden und versucht außerdem von Repression betroffene Mitglieder bei ihrer Flucht und im Gefängnis nicht alleine zu lassen. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist die Organisierung von Bildungsmöglichkeiten für Fabrikarbeiter*innen zu Themen wie Organizing und Arbeitskämpfen.

Das Ganze ist ohne externen Support nicht aufrecht zu erhalten. Die Einnahmen durch Mitgliedsbeiträge sind durch die äußerst prekären Zustände nach dem Putsch des Militärs weggebrochen. Zu ihren internationalen Freund*innen gehören die Arbeitsgruppe Asien der ICL (Internationale Konföderation der Arbeiter*innen) sowie das Solidarity Center.

Wer steckt hinter dem Fundraising?

Initiiert wurde es von der FAU Hamburg zusammen mit der FGWM. Durchgeführt wird es mittlerweile auch von Genoss*innen anderer FAU Syndikate, der IWW WISE-RA und Earth Strike UK.

Toll! Was kann ich tun?

Zunächst wäre es super, wenn ihr ebenfalls etwas in den Hut werft. Das geht mit einer Kreditkarte über die firefund-Seite oder per Überweisung auf das Konto der FAU Hamburg.

Alle eingehenden Beiträge werden letztendlich auf der firefund-Seite zusammengetragen. Die Beträge, die direkt über firefund laufen, werden nur eingezogen, wenn das Fundraising am Ende auch erfolgreich ist, das heißt, die 15 000 Euro Marke geknackt wird.

The grassroot labour union FAU Hamburg initiated a fundraising together with the FGWM and stands side by side with the Federation of General Workers Myanmar (FGWM).

What is it about?

The FGWM consists of 40 (factory) labour unions and keeps uniting thousands of members. It is one of the very few labour federations known to us in Asia, which follows a grassroots approach. The FGWM has its roots in the textile factories of the industrial zones in Myanmar. The secretaries had to flee to escape prosecution by the military junta and now operate from a house in exile. Some members of FAU Hamburg met them last year. They emphasized how some of them only managed to escape with the support provided by the previous fundraising done last year.
Despite the military dictatorship they continue with their efforts. The FGWM supports workers to get organised, follows labour fights (like the recent strike at Sun Apparel), which still take place under great danger, and also tries to support members facing state repression, for example seeking refuge or supporting them in prison as far as this is possible. Another focal point is to provide training opportunities for factory workers in regards to organising and labour struggles.

All of this can’t be upheld without external support. Due to the extremely precarious living conditions, which evolved especially after the military coup in February 2021, the income based on membership fees collapsed. Their supportive partners on the international level are the ICL Working Group Asia as well as the Solidarity Center.

Who is behind the fundraising?

It was initiated by the Free Workers‘ Union (FAU) Hamburg together with the FGWM. And by now it is also being supported and conducted by comrades of other FAU syndicates, the IWW WISE-RA as well as Earth Strike UK.

First of all, it would be great, if you consider to support the work of FGWM by simply contributing to the fundraising. You can do so with a credit card using the firefund page or by transfering to the account of FAU Hamburg.
