There are various working groups within FAU Hamburg on different topics. Below is a brief description of them.
WG Union Consulting
The working group offers free initial trade union counseling.
The counseling takes place on the second Tuesday of every month from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Die Schwarze Katze, Fettstraße 23, 20357 Hamburg. For individual appointments, contact us at fauhh-arbeitsrecht@fau.org or via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, or Bluesky.“

WG Worker cooperatives
The FAU Hamburg’s Working Group on worker cooperatives was founded in 2008 in response to the need to establish the FAU Hamburg’s position as a union regarding worker cooperatives. Since then, our focus has shifted to building infrastructure for worker cooperatives in Hamburg. We organize ‘Kollektiv-Freitag,’ a monthly informal meeting for collectivists from Hamburg and the surrounding area, and are active in the newly founded national association ‘Collective of the Collectives (KdK).’ Additionally, once a month, we hold an open counseling session at ‘Die Schwarze Katze’ for initiatives looking to establish worker cooperative.
WG Public Relations
We are the Public Relations Working Group and ensure that the messages of FAU Hamburg are brought to the public. Our tasks include creating flyers and posters, designing brochures, and issuing press releases.
We maintain our website and manage the social media channels to spread current topics, labor struggles, and actions of FAU Hamburg. Additionally, we are the point of contact for press representatives and are available for interviews to make our concerns and struggles known to a broader public.
WG Education and social work
In FAU Hamburg, an above-average number of people are organized who work in the field of education and/or social work. Therefore, we have decided to come together as a section to continuously address issues from our professional lives. Current focal points are supporting labor struggles in the care sector and supporting academic staff at the university.
If you work in the mentioned field, whether as a student assistant or in training, part-time or full-time, and are interested in getting involved, contact us at fauhh-bildungsoziales@fau.org.
WG Construction
The construction industry is of crucial importance because it not only creates the physical foundation of our society, but also serves as a central site where power relations between workers and those who own the means of production are negotiated. It is here that the importance of fair working conditions, decent wages, and respect for the people who build our cities and infrastructure becomes clear. Without the workers on construction sites, no skyscraper would rise into the sky, and no road would be built to make our lives easier. Therefore, the construction industry is not just an economic sector, but also a battleground for social justice and labor rights.
We, the baufau, are a working group of people working in the construction industry and those interested in it.
Working conditions in construction are harsh, dangerous, and sometimes deadly. The construction sector has undergone significant changes in recent years. On one hand, the organization of workers in construction has decreased, leading to a deterioration of conditions for all employees, such as in terms of breaks and wages. On the other hand, an increasing number of workers are working under precarious conditions, earning low wages, and are highly dependent on their companies. Foreign workers often do not know their rights and are frequently dependent on their employers even in their private lives.
We aim to raise awareness for the crucial construction sector and fight together for better conditions in construction.
If you have problems at work, want to share your experiences, or are interested in our work, come to the open meeting of baufau Hamburg – every third Friday of the month at 7:30 PM at the Libertarian Action and Cultural Center Schwarze Katze, Fettstr. 23 (U2 Christuskirche / S-Bahn Sternschanze).
